Bevan Brittan - The public services law firm

Bevan Brittan is a law firm dedicated to public services.  From our offices in London, Bristol & Birmingham, we provide legal advice to clients in the UK delivering public services.

What do we mean by public services? We define public services as those which are delivered by organisations in the public, private and third sectors which commission, provide, procure, fund and regulate public services – our clients.

Our core markets are health, local government, housing, waste, energy and renewables, education, emergency services, public infrastructure, charities and not-for-profit organisations.  Our client base reflects this and includes over 30% of all local authorities, 40% of all health trusts and more than 100 private sector organisations - all working together on the delivery of public services.

Our strength is our depth of understanding of our clients and their markets. Clients tell us that they find us easy to work with. Partly this is because of the people we employ: they are not stuffy – they are bright, capable and motivated. And partly it is because our clients don’t need to explain themselves over and over again – we get it. By listening and taking the time to truly get to know the issues, we provide incisive, practical legal advice.

Many clients also comment that they value our experience of working with both the public and private sectors, particularly at the interface between the two.  Public services clients now represent over 90% of our business - and the percentage is still growing.  No other law firm is so heavily focused on public services.

We offer a full range of service including: contract, litigation, property, construction, major projects, employment and medical law.

Our values are core to Bevan Brittan’s ethos. We are passionate about the markets we choose to work in and strive to deliver the best advice and solutions to our clients. This is also underpinned by our promises to clients; these act as a moral compass for the firm in how we approach our work and the delivery and service our clients should expect.

Naturally we take our commitment to corporate responsibility  seriously and this is reflected through our values and our promises.

Our Values

Take a look at our six values which are closely aligned to our strategy and our promises to clients.

1. commitment to public services

As individuals, teams and as a firm, we are committed to supporting public services whether these are provided by the public, private or third sectors.

2. people centric

In our firm, people succeed according to their merits. We believe in a people centric approach to business, and equality and fairness in the way we treat our employees, members, clients, suppliers and communities. We respect people for who they are, their skills and knowledge, their behaviours and the contribution they make as individuals, team members to the firm, to our clients and to our communities, and value this diversity.

3. passion for excellence

We aspire to excellence in everything that we do within our firm and for our clients. We seek to combine technical legal excellence with commerciality of advice and excellent client service in the context of the client’s business. We demand a lot from our high quality people – who we expect to be bright, capable and self-motivated, as well as passionate about what they do, how they do it, and who they do it for.

4. collegiality and teamwork

We aim to bring out the best in each other and create strong and successful working relationships within the firm and with our clients. Working as an integrated firm, across teams, departments and markets, will enable us to deliver excellent client service and advice that is greater than the sum of the parts. We seek to maintain a supportive ethos, where we are interested and engaged in what each other are doing, and to have an open and approachable working environment.

5. integrity

Behaving with the highest levels of integrity is fundamental to who we are. We adhere to high professional standards and we are our clients’ trusted adviser.

6. creating value

Creating value for and from our clients and for and from our people is key to sustainable success for our firm. Our focus is on building client life time value and attracting and retaining high quality people by finding, winning, keeping and growing interesting, challenging and profitable work. We aim to ensure that our chosen clients are at the heart of everything we do.
